Skoda Motability Adaptations

From the Skoda Kodiaq to the Skoda Karoq, and the Skoda Enyaq to the Skoda Fabia, we’ve got a suite of accessible driving aids and disability vehicle adaptations for a wide range of Skodas on Motability and private.

Skoda Disability Cars

As a disabled person or someone with limited mobility, having a vehicle that works for you is important to help you stay independent and active outside the home. If you already own a Skoda Motability car, are considering one, or even looking to privately purchase one, the good news is that it can be adapted to support a wide range of mobility needs.

Known for their reliability, Skoda offers a solid base for building a personalised mobility vehicle. With a range of models available, including petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid, they are a smart and often a great family-friendly choice.

You can also explore other car manufacturers that are suitable for disability adaptations if you’re still deciding which car is right for you.

Available Skoda Motability Adaptations

Vehicle adaptations are a practical and accessible solution which afford you a greater choice of cars to suit your preferences. They allow you to enjoy all the benefits and features of your Skoda, but making it accessible to your access and driving requirements.

Driving Aids for Skodas

Safety is the most important part of driving both for you and everyone else on the road. There are many adaptations that can help you drive safely and confidently:

  • Hand controls enable you to operate the acceleration and brake from your hands rather than your feet.
  • Left Foot Accelerators can be fitted to the left of the brake pedal, in automatic cars, to allow operation with your left foot.
  • Steering Aids enable the one-handed operation of a vehicle’s steering wheel; these simple adaptations are often used in conjunction with hand controls.
  • Remote Control Devices allow drivers with limited mobility to steer the car and operate a range of secondary functions, such as the indicators, horn, headlights and wipers.

Skoda Stowage Solutions

You can also look at ways to lift, store and carry your wheelchair or mobility scooter when using your Skoda.

  • Car Boot Hoists will lift your mobility scooter or wheelchair and load it into the boot of your car via lifting points and a simple remote control.
  • Wheelchair Rooftop Boxes  can lift, stow and retrieve a manual wheelchair in less than 90 seconds.
  • Platform Lifts enable you to simply drive your mobility scooter or wheelchair onto the platform, step off and use the remote control to safely lift your device into the boot of your car.

Getting Seated In Your Skoda

We make getting in and out of your Skoda easier and safer, either seated from a wheelchair or standing:

  • Transfer Plates provide a temporary stable platform on which to pause and pivot either from standing or a mobility device.
  • Person Hoists lift you, or your passenger, via a fitted sling and hoists you or your passenger out of your mobility device and into the car.
  • Swivel Seats enable easy access by turning up to 90 degrees outside the vehicle, lowering, and even transferring from the vehicle entirely onto a wheelchair frame.
  • Side Steps provide an additional platform to reduce the step height from the ground to the vehicle floor in larger vehicles.

Choosing The Right Adaptations

Once you’ve highlighted which Skoda you like, the next step is to contact a vehicle adaptations installer to gain advice on what adaptations you require and to check vehicle compatibility. Not all adaptations fit in all cars so it’s crucial to confirm the vehicle will work with the products you need.

At Mobility in Motion, we make this process simple, supportive and stress-free with our complimentary mobility assessments. We come out to your home or provide an online assessment to discuss your current driving abilities and mobility requirements, recommend the suitable adaptations, check vehicle compatibility and provide full product demonstrations. We encourage you to look at everything available to help you travel in a way that works for your needs and your lifestyle.?

What Funding Is Available For Skoda Motability Adaptations?

As part of Motability’s commitment to providing accessible and worry-free motoring, not only do they fund a brand-new vehicle but also car adaptations to increase accessibility. Many are even available at no extra cost, as long as they’re fitted at the start of your lease.

However, personal circumstances may change so if you require adaptations mid-way through your lease, you will need to speak with Motability as they may offer a mid-lease grant. Motability will look at this on a case by case basis and conduct a means tested assessment to see whether you qualify for charitable funding.

If you’re not on the Motability Scheme, it’s possible that you may qualify for a grant or funding for your adaptation from a relevant charity.

Alternatively, if you are registered disabled and looking to privately purchase your new vehicle, you can qualify for VAT exemption and use the money saved to buy your adaptations. Or simply buy the adaptations directly through us!
