What Kia Motability Adaptations Are Available?

Adapting your Kia enhances accessibility and ensures you can travel in optimal comfort and safety. Discover what vehicle adaptations are available to suit your individual needs.

Kia Driving Aids

When considering your driving experience, safety is paramount, both for you, your passengers and everyone else on the road. There are many driving aids that can enhance your driving set-up within your Kia:

  • Hand controls enable you to operate the accelerator and brake from your hands rather than your feet.
  • Left Foot Accelerators can be fitted to the left of the brake pedal, in automatic cars, to allow operation with your left foot.
  • Steering Aids enable the one-handed operation of a vehicle’s steering wheel; these are often paired with hand controls.
  • Remote Control Devices allow drivers with limited mobility to steer the car and operate a range of secondary functions, such as the indicators, horn, headlights and wipers – from one device. Voice control is also available if dexterity poses a challenge to operate the buttons.

Easily Take Your Mobility Device On Your Journeys

You can also look at ways to effortlessly lift, store and carry your wheelchair or mobility scooter when driving your Kia.

  • Car Boot Hoists will lift your mobility scooter or wheelchair and load it into the boot of your car via lifting points and a simple remote control.
  • Wheelchair Rooftop Boxes can lift, stow and retrieve a manual wheelchair in less than 90 seconds.
  • Platform Lifts enable you to simply drive your mobility scooter or wheelchair onto the platform, step off and use the remote control to safely lift your device into the boot of your car.

Get In and Out Of Your Kia Seamlessly

We make getting in and out of your Kia easier and smoother, either seated from a mobility device or standing:

  • Transfer Plates provide a temporary stable platform on which to pause and pivot either from standing or a mobility device.
  • Person Hoists lift you, or your passenger, via a fitted sling and hoists you or your passenger out of your mobility device and into the car.
  • Swivel Seats enable easy access by turning up to 90 degrees outside the vehicle, lowering, and even transferring from the vehicle entirely onto a wheelchair frame.
  • Side Steps provide an additional platform to reduce the step height from the ground to the vehicle floor in larger vehicles.

How to Select the Right Kia Disability Adaptations

After selecting the Kia model that best fits your wants and needs, the next step is to speak with a vehicle adaptations specialist for expert guidance on which Kia Motability adaptations are more suitable for you and to check compatibility with your chosen vehicle.

At Mobility in Motion, we make this process simple, supportive and hassle-free with our complimentary mobility assessments. We come out to your home or provide an online assessment to discuss your current driving abilities and mobility requirements, recommend the suitable adaptations, check vehicle compatibility and provide full product demonstrations. We encourage you to look at everything available to help you travel in a way that works for your needs and your lifestyle.?

How To Purchase Your Kia Mobility Adaptations

The Motability Scheme’s mission is to provide worry-free and affordable motoring for those within the disability community, so not only does this funding apply towards your car, but it also extends to adaptations. Many are even available at no extra cost, as long as they’re fitted at the start of your lease.

However, personal circumstances may change so if you require adaptations mid-way through your lease, you will need to speak with Motability as they may offer a mid-lease grant. Motability will look at this on a case-by-case basis and conduct a means-tested assessment to see whether you qualify for charitable funding.

If you’re not on the Motability Scheme, it’s possible that you may qualify for a grant or funding for your adaptation from a relevant charity.

Alternatively, if you are registered disabled and looking to privately purchase your new vehicle, you can qualify for VAT exemption and use the money saved to buy your adaptations. Or simply buy the adaptations directly through us!
