What to check before choosing a small car to adapt
A few measurements matter more than the size of the car. For getting in and out, look at how wide the door opens, how low the sill sits and, if you transfer from a wheelchair, how closely the seat height matches your chair. A swivel seat also depends on the size of the door opening and the height of the person using it.
For a wheelchair or scooter, check the boot opening against your device when it’s folded. In a smaller boot, you may need to fold down a rear seat to fit it in.
For driving, think about the gearbox. Almost all electric cars are automatic, with no clutch pedal, which can help if using a clutch is difficult.
