Help Shape the Future of Accessible Travel

Take Our Disabled Driving Survey

Have you ever struggled to get in or out of a car because of a disability, health condition or reduced mobility? Have you stopped driving, or considered it? We’d love to hear your experience.

At Mobility in Motion, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to travel safely, comfortably and independently.

Yet every week we speak to people who tell us they didn’t realise vehicle adaptations existed, assumed there wasn’t a solution for their mobility challenges, or thought giving up driving was their only option.

That’s why we’re launching a new nationwide Disabled Driving Survey to better understand the real barriers people face and help improve awareness of the solutions that could make everyday travel easier.

Why Are We Running This Survey?

For many people, a car is about much more than getting from A to B.

It provides the freedom to:

  • Stay independent
  • Get to work
  • Attend medical appointments
  • Visit family and friends
  • Continue hobbies and everyday activities

But when driving becomes more difficult, or getting into a car becomes uncomfortable, many people don’t know where to turn for advice.

As specialists in vehicle adaptations, we know there are solutions that can make driving and travelling easier. From swivel seats and transfer plates to hand controls, pedal adaptations and boot hoists, there are adaptations available for a wide range of mobility needs.

What we don’t yet know is how many people are missing out simply because they aren’t aware these solutions exist.

Through this survey, we hope to better understand:

  • The challenges people experience when driving or travelling by car.
  • Whether a lack of awareness is preventing people from exploring vehicle adaptations.
  • The barriers that stop people from remaining mobile and independent.
  • What information or support could be improved to make a real difference.

What Will the Survey Ask?

The survey explores several important topics, including:

  • Awareness and understanding of vehicle adaptations
  • Whether you’ve reduced, stopped or considered giving up driving because of your mobility
  • Reasons why some people never learned to drive
  • Challenges getting into or out of a vehicle as a passenger
  • The practical, emotional and financial barriers to adapted driving solutions
  • Whether better information or guidance would have helped you make different decisions about your mobility

There are no right or wrong answers, we’re simply interested in understanding people’s real experiences.

How Will the Results Be Used?

The findings will help us build a clearer picture of the challenges facing disabled people and those with limited mobility across the UK.

We’ll use the results to:

  • Better understand awareness of vehicle adaptations.
  • Create more helpful guides and resources based on real experiences.
  • Highlight common barriers that prevent people accessing adapted vehicles.
  • Support wider conversations around accessibility, independence and inclusive mobility.
  • Share the findings publicly to help raise awareness of the challenges people face and the solutions available.

Ultimately, we hope this research encourages more people to seek advice before assuming they have to stop driving or give up travelling by car altogether.

Help Us Improve Accessible Travel

Every response helps us better understand the real barriers people face when travelling by car.

Whether you’ve already found a solution, are still looking for one, or simply want to share your experience, we’d love to hear from you.

The survey takes around three minutes to complete, and your feedback will help shape future guidance, resources and awareness around vehicle adaptations.

Together, we can help ensure fewer people miss out on the independence that accessible travel can provide.
