Push Brake Hand Control FAQ’s

What are the hand controls to work the accelerator and brake?

Hand controls are driving adaptations that allow a driver to operate the accelerator and brake using their hands instead of foot pedals. They are designed for people with reduced mobility, lower limb weakness or conditions that make using standard pedals difficult or uncomfortable.

The Silver Line II Push Brake is a popular hand control system that enables the driver to brake by pushing the lever forwards, while acceleration is controlled separately using the vehicle’s standard accelerator setup or an additional adaptation such as a ring accelerator, if required. Hand controls are professionally installed and tailored to suit the driver’s individual needs and vehicle.

How do car hand controls work?

Car hand controls work by mechanically or electronically linking a hand-operated lever to the vehicle’s accelerator and brake pedals. This allows the driver to control acceleration and braking without using their feet.

With the Silver Line II Push Brake, the driver applies the brakes by gently pushing the control lever forwards. The system is designed to provide smooth, responsive braking while remaining comfortable and easy to operate. Hand controls are positioned within easy reach of the steering wheel to support safe and confident driving.

What is the push pull brake and accelerator hand control?

A push pull hand control is a driving adaptation that allows the driver to operate both the accelerator and brake using a single hand-operated lever. Typically, pushing the lever activates the brake, while pulling it controls acceleration.

The Silver Line II Push Brake is a variation of this style of hand control, specifically designed to provide intuitive and precise braking control through a forward push movement.

How much do push pull hand controls cost?

The cost of push pull hand controls can vary depending on the type of system and any additional features required. The Silver Line II Push Brake retails from £595 including professional installation and a 3-year warranty, while the Push/Pull Hand Control retails from £695.

Final pricing may vary if additional features are needed, such as an indicator toggle, mini keypad handle or other adaptations. At Mobility in Motion we can discuss your requirements and provide a final, clear quote.

Can I convert my car to hand controls?

Yes, many automatic vehicles can be converted to hand controls, allowing drivers with reduced mobility to continue driving safely and comfortably.

The Silver Line II Push Brake is suitable for a wide range of vehicles and is professionally installed to ensure reliable operation and ease of use. Mobility in Motion can assess your vehicle and driving requirements to recommend the most appropriate hand control solution for your needs.
